HYDROKINESITHERAPY at J|medical
What is hydrokinesitherapy? It is a therapeutic and rehabilitative practice that exploits the physical properties of water to promote functional recovery.
What exactly is it indicated for? It is indicated in all those acute and chronic pathologies that require load management.
How does it work in detail? Hydrokinesitherapy acts by exploiting the characteristics of water and temperature. The reduced gravity inside the pool, in fact, facilitates movement and reduces the sensation of fatigue and pain, eliminating critical issues that would present themselves outside the water. The temperature, which inside the hydrotherapy pool is about 33°, allows for muscle relaxation and the performance of exercises with significantly reduced effort. The body, supported by the water during exercise, acquires greater safety in movements and perceives beneficial effects also at a psychophysical level.
Can I decide independently to do hydrokinesitherapy? Absolutely not. Hydrokinesitherapy is a real therapy and therefore must always be prescribed, dosed, and indicated by the specialist. It is often only the first or second phase of a broader and more articulated path.
What role does the physiotherapist have in this therapeutic practice? The role of the physiotherapist, inside or outside the pool, will be to guide and supervise the patient in the execution of exercises throughout the session.
How do you work inside the pool? Inside the hydrotherapy pool, one can work actively and passively, acting on joint mobility, control, strength, and the cardiovascular system. The different water depth levels allow for varying the percentage of load. Finally, the aid of wall bars, handrails, floats, bikes, and boards allows for stimulating all the patient’s conditioning capacities and anticipating by a few days/weeks those activities that would be precluded outside the water.
